Green Light Couriers'

Driver Hall of Fame

At Green Light Couriers, we recognise that our drivers are our biggest asset, and we treat them accordingly. Our Driver Hall of Fame is the place where we give our drivers the recognition and acknowledgement they deserve.

Read on to learn more about some of the friendly faces who inspire us on a daily basis, and discover why they choose to work with Green Light Couriers.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I like the autonomy of the job and the opportunity to more or less regulate my own income. There is always plenty of variety, no day is ever the same, except my

first job of the day. I do a daily pick up for one of the major hospitals and I enjoy the routine of a set starting time and knowing where I will need to be at 8am. After that it's anyone's guess where I will end up.

What is a normal working day?

I leave home at 7.45am, I travel up to 300kms a day and am rarely home before 6pm. My jobs are consistent throughout the day, instead of how it is at so many other courier companies, where the morning is slow and the afternoons frantic. Green Light Couriers has a cheaper rate early in the day to encourage customers to be more organised, and get the work flow more consistent. This helps us manage our workload more effectively.

Why do you choose to work at Green Light Couriers?

Green Light has an open approach and is very transparent. The drivers are given a remittance advice which shows exactly what the charges are for the work we have done and all financial transactions are available, unlike some other courier companies where you just get told 'this is what you have earned' with no explanation. While I have no intention of going anywhere now one day I will retire. It is good to know that there would always be a job for me here, if I wanted to only work part-time.

What do you think about your co-drivers and company management?

Good people to work with and very open and honest.

What do you like least about the job?

The afternoons, from 2.30pm on, when schools are out and there is work to do but you can't get anywhere fast. Then once the school traffic is gone you have to deal with the stop-start of peak hour traffic.

What do you do at the weekend?

I am very involved with Sailability, an organisation which assists able bodied and disabled people to participate in sailing at Docklands every second Sunday - www.sailability.org . Sailing is a fabulous sport, which many people think is only available to the wealthy members of traditional sailing clubs. Sailability ensures anyone can be involved and we all have a lot of fun.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Different faces, different places, and no day is ever the same.

What is a normal working day?

I start work early each day and generally finish anytime between 5.30-7pm, although recently I did a job which took me to Warrnambool and I did not get home until 1.15am the next day. My work takes me all over the place and I enjoy the challenge of finding the most direct way from one place to another - maybe something to do with being an ex-rally driver!

Why do you choose to work at Green Light Couriers?

Green Light Couriers is a good company to work for. I like the fact that all the profits go to charity, but I worked with the company long before this happened and it is not the reason I am here. Maybe if I were looking for another job it would influence my decision, but I would not consider working for another company anyhow. I have heard horrendous stories from other drivers in the industry about how they are treated by different companies. Why would I ever want to move when I have it so good?

What do you think about your co-drivers and company management?

It sounds clichéd I know, but I enjoy friendly bosses and a friendly team to work with at Green Light. I trust the company management implicitly, and know they would not do the wrong thing by me ever. From what I have heard, this is unusual in the courier business.

What do you like least about the job?

Sometimes the longer hours. I never like to let people down and will do whatever is necessary to get the job done, so I often end up working longer than I would like. I know that this goes with the turf though, and the variety is also one of the attractions of the job! So really there is not a lot I don't like about it.

What do you do at the weekend?

Catch up on sleep! I go flat out all week and I enjoy just relaxing at the weekend. I notice that even if it is a little quiet at work, and I have ten minutes to myself, I find myself nodding off immediately!
